Jobber vs Housecall Pro vs ServiceTitan for Calgary trades

Which field-service software fits your crew size, how much setup each takes, and when paper tickets need something else.

If you run a trades business in Calgary, you've probably been pitched field-service software. The three names that come up most are Jobber, Housecall Pro, and ServiceTitan. They overlap a lot, but they're built for different sizes of business. Here's a plain-language comparison, plus the cases where none of them fits.

A note on this comparison: these products update often and pricing changes. We describe what each is generally known for and who it tends to suit. Book demos and check current plans before deciding. If we ever earn a referral fee, we disclose it in your prescription.

What field-service software does

All three cover the same core loop: a customer calls, you quote, you schedule, a crew does the job, you invoice, and you get paid. The difference is how much of that loop each one handles, and how much setup and cost comes with it.

Jobber

Jobber is headquartered in Edmonton and is widely used by Canadian home-service businesses: landscaping, cleaning, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and more. It's known for being quick to learn, with quoting, scheduling, invoicing, a customer portal, and online payments, plus a QuickBooks Online connection. For a crew of a few people up to a couple of dozen, it's often the first one to look at.

Housecall Pro

Housecall Pro covers similar ground and is popular with home-service businesses in the US. If you're considering it in Calgary, confirm how it handles GST, Canadian payment processing, and your accounting software during the demo.

ServiceTitan

ServiceTitan is built for larger contractors, typically shops with many technicians, a dispatch team, and a need for detailed reporting. It does a lot, but it's a bigger commitment in cost and setup. If you have five technicians, it's probably more than you need today.

Which one should you pick?

  • Owner-operator to around 20 people, residential work: shortlist Jobber and Housecall Pro, and demo both with a real job from last week.
  • Larger shops with dispatchers and many technicians: ServiceTitan becomes worth evaluating.
  • Whatever you pick: the setup matters as much as the choice. Import customers properly, build your price list, set up quote and invoice templates, and train the crew. Half-set-up software is how most businesses end up back on paper.

When none of them fits

These products are built mainly around residential service calls. Oilfield and industrial service companies often work differently: custom field tickets, operator PO or AFE numbers, location details, and invoices submitted through an operator's own system. That's when a custom tool makes sense, usually for capturing tickets on site and turning them into invoices quickly. We cover that in how to invoice field tickets faster.

Before you sign up for anything

Work out where your hours actually go. If quoting takes two hours a week but invoicing takes ten, you want the tool that's strongest at invoicing. Run your numbers with the admin cost calculator, or read how much admin is really costing your business.
